How to position yourself as the go-to person within your network

Positioning yourself as the Go-To person in your network takes some doing, but it is possible. I know for a fact that all (successful) realtors do this all the time. They have to be able to break out a list of people they know for their clients on a regular basis. While we wait on the Coach’s response (which will be coming out this next Monday) why don’t you post up some things that you have done in order to become that go-to person in your network.

Also, consider sharing this topic with your realtor friends and lets find out what makes a successful realtor :) . Hit us up in the comments below.

Becoming a “go-to” person takes commitment. the first key nugget is to identify trust factors in yourself and in others. You must invest time to nurture relationships with your network to allow you the opportunity to share their expertise with others. The second nugget is to use your ears. Listen, openly and honestly, with your network to hear what they are saying. The adage goes, “you have two ears and one mouth, use them appropriately”.

ok, you guys. for me, it’s simple. DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU’RE GOING TO DO! once you find some way to help a person and you commit to doing it, demonstrate your character and credibility by following through. whether it’s introducing someone, finding information, or showing up. be faithful in the little things.

    Barb,

Interesting that you associate listening with becoming the center of your networks. I have always struggled with that because it seems like there is always so much to say and so little time to say it. I don’t try to be insensitive, but if I have a chance to share something with the person I’m talking with, I usually take it.

    Whatcha think?

  4. Demonstrating your skills, knowledge and talent to connect others is incredibly important. You’ll quickly grow a positive reputation within your contact sphere and create more opportunities than you can imagine keeping up with. It does take some planning and personal development. You’ve got to really believe in the law of the harvest and be willing demonstrate a real trust in others. Thanks for all of your comments. Let’s keep the party going!

Listen, Listen, Listen! Be generous in sharing your knowledge and skills. This will inspire trust and commitment from those around you and beyond.

  6. Sue S says:

I’ll have to say again it’s listening. When you are talking with someone, LISTEN and you will likely hear a need. Then you can offer a solution! This has worked incredibly well and develops the trust required in building relationships. For instance, someone who talks about how hectic the day is may need to be connected with a time management specialist. A simple…you need to meet so and so because they helped me get my ducks in a row shows that you heard the need even when they didn’t think they were asking you for information.

  8. Honesty, integrity, thoughtfulness and handful of other worthy attributes might be a good start to get your network’s attention. But these may not be enough.

To these fine building blocks one could use some mortar. Consistency, and focus make a good glue. But even this great structure may be overlooked when the call goes out for your product or service.

Without your huge passion and enthusiasm on display to brightly paint your capacity to preform, another act could easily steal your referral.

People gravitate to exciting and dynamic folks. And the more people singing your praises, the more likely the universe picks you as the ‘Got-to-person’!
